I tell stories!
It’s the best job in the world.
And then the world shifted…
A storyteller fundamentally need only one thing to complete their task.
An audience…
I’m looking to raise funds to enable me to purchase the right technical equipment to set up an ability for me to stream online.
I have stories I need to tell.
But I do not have the right equipment.
Or indeed currently the right skills.
But I do have access to a good friend.
And that friend is Father Christmas…
When we first went into lockdown I started to tell stories live online.
I would like to think that the stories were good but the technical quality was very poor...
My kit let me down.
So I stopped.
Also during lockdown somebody asked me to record a message to Father Christmas to reassure children that it was all going to be okay.
And that message went viral.
I did record some private Father Christmas videos but I quickly closed it down.
Father Christmas could not be seen to be profiteering during a pandemic I felt!
In September I opened my Father Christmas Group and invited a few friends I think thinking that I would have a few people in there for when I started seeing if anybody wanted a message from Father Christmas in November.
Within a week I had more requests and I could cope with.
And I have been learning how to do this better…
The messages I record are bespoke and highly personalised.
And also as a principal they are offered for free.
Once the recipient is happy and then offer a link for a contribution.
For me this enables the opportunity of a highly crafted and personalised message from Father Christmas, for free, if that is what somebody needs.
Because we might need a bit of that magic right now.
Because people are good.
Currently I am starting to replace the earnings I’ve lost as a storyteller, creative and performer.
A considerable percentage of the videos I create are free.
A percentage receive a fair contribution.
And a percentage receive a generous contribution from people who wish to support both the message, perhaps the messenger and I hope the aspirations of the project.
This is the Group which as we speak currently contains almost 4000 people.

My aspirations are to continue to make the personalised messages offered as a free/paid what you want.
And in parallel increase my capacity so that people who have the ability can buy in advance a message at a higher rate, can.
Once this is converted into equipment and set up I’m committing in December to Free/Pay What You Want storytelling sessions, streamed over various platforms as Father Christmas & Gav Cross: Storyteller.
Culminating with a reading of 'Twas the night before Christmas and a 'time for bed' message on Christmas Eve.
Continuing the Family Friendly storytelling throughout 2021
These will all be offered as free, though there will be the opportunity to contribute if the audience so wishes.
Additionally to this I have many stories and shows tell online.
My show 'Twisted Tales for Terrible Children...' has just sold out online.
I would like to repeat this and offer a 'Pay What You Want'
I have a family friendly alternative comedy club, Funny Looking Kids: Comedy Club, and the ability to take this online is there.
So I am opening up opportunities to pre-book Father Christmas messages to be recorded and delivered during November.
I guarantee you all this funding will be used for equipment, design, costume, and a set up to empower my stories. Enable them to be widely accessible and to give me a fighting chance to continue in my career in this increasing uncertain time for the Arts.
There is nothing more vital in a story.
And a storyteller that wants to feel viable again I know I have a lot to offer.
I am extremely grateful for whatever you have to offer, so I have set small amounts for altruistic contributions.
Opportunistic huge amounts to catch of the passing Benefactor.
But the bulk of this will be for the reward of the pre-paid Father Christmas message.
The figure I have chosen sits at the higher end of what people have contributed but it is what people have contributed times.
