We're delighted to see that we've now met our upper funding goal of £200,000. As a consequence, the Interim Directors have opened negotiations with the current landlords with a view to purchasing the Gardeners Rest. We hope to attract as much further investment as we can in the time remaining on the share issue. The more we raise, the sooner we can make a deal and take the pub into community ownership!
The Gardeners Rest, nestling in the fast changing Sheffield district of Neepsend, is up for sale. An exciting opportunity has emerged to preserve this much loved pub and the two floors above it for social benefit. Serving as a place of recreation since 1898, the Gardeners provides an invaluable space for an eclectic range of individuals and user groups who come from all parts of the city to socialise.
The recently formed Gardeners Rest Community Society intends to ensure the future prosperity of the Gardeners by taking it into community ownership. A Community Share Offer provides the opportunity to buy the Gardeners Rest and and keep it as a truly local enterprise, accountable to the community it serves and benefits.
The shares you buy will give you membership of The Gardeners Rest Community Society Ltd. Your involvement can be as much or as little as you choose, and you will have the same voting rights as every other shareholder regardless of the amount invested. You can vote at Annual General Meetings, stand for election to the Board of Directors, inspect the share register of the society, volunteer skills for the refurbishment or just give the Gardeners Rest your custom and support.
We have agreed that the minimum target for our share issue will be £100,000, with our upper goal being £200,000. Our campaign will run from Saturday 15th October and Monday 28th November. An application for the remainder of the money required will then be made to the Plunkett Foundation and the Department of Communities and Local Government's More than a Pub Scheme.
The Society has formed a small steering committee, which brings together 40 years of collective experience in the pub trade, as well as architectural expertise, and social enterprise know how. In order to ensure continuity of service, the Society will appoint an experienced manager, who will be responsible for the day-to-day running of the business, overseen by the Directors.
We invite you to review our share prospectus and share issue documentation for further details of our project, including the return value of shares. Join us, and own a piece of your local!
