Aim: We need to find our old Gallery seats a new home, and raise funds to support the Tyne Theatre & Opera House refurbishment.

Due to overwhelming interest, we have decided to add more seats to the campaign. PLEASE NOTE these seats do not have the decorative cast iron seat ends. The seats are supported by plain, functional cast iron stanchions and they're screwed together with a bracket, but you may need to install an additional support for them in your home for them to stand firmly. The Tyne Theatre & Opera House, a Grade 1 listed Victorian theatre in the heart of Newcastle upon Tyne, has been granted £247,500 of funding from The National Lottery Heritage Fund to undertake important restoration work to the gallery tier of the heritage venue.
The work, made possible thanks to money raised by National Lottery players, will start in Summer 2025 and will involve the lowering and restoring of traditional sightlines to improve audience comfort, safety and view. This will be achieved by removing a timber overlay, fitted above the original seating rows in 1986, to restore the original seating layout, which improves the sightlines requires less obstructive handrails. This work will also increase the capacity of the gallery tier. New seating designed in a heritage style, accounting for twenty-first century comfort, will be installed supported by a team of new and existing volunteers.

- Seats come in "banks" with two cast iron seat ends for each set (1 seat, 2 seats or three seats available as default).
- Limited seats available - if you want four or more seats, please get in touch with us (email below) for more options. If you're interested in a larger number of seats, we would be happy to donate some for free.
- Seats need to be picked up from the Theatre on week commencing 14th July
- Seats are donated as found - please be aware the seats are not suitable for commercial use. We will not donate seats with torn upholstery or structural issues, but there are signs of wear and tear in most of them.
