Aim

We urgently need to adapt our home ground so we can continue to provide cricket for everyone during and after the current global pandemic.

Who are we?

We are Fleckney Village Cricket Club based in beautiful South Leicestershire. Unlike a lot of our neighbouring clubs we are a family focused friendly community club who focus on providing cricket for everyone.

We have over 150 members from all over the local area. Our youngest members are 4 years old - our oldest active player is 74.

We offer a huge range of cricket including

  • All Stars Cricket for 4-8 year olds
  • Dynamos for 9-12 year olds
  • Hardball cricket for everyone aged 13 and over including league, friendly and T20
  • Walking cricket for those aged 55 and over
  • Women's softball
  • Training camps
  • Free professionally coached training for everyone

All this despite not owning our own ground or, as you can see, having any permanent facilities of our own.

What has Covid 19 done to our club?

Despite getting to a cup final and hosting one of only 3 All Stars courses held in Leicestershire last year, Covid 19 wrecked our 2020 season.

Our brand new Dynamos section never got up and running, our women's softball tournament was cancelled, we played less than half of the matches we were scheduled and our walking cricket (for 55 yes and over) was completely stopped.

Playing numbers were massively down, matchday revenue was down over 60% year on year, sponsorship was less than 20% than we received in 2019 and we received £0 in annual fees as we were unable to commit to a full season. Our outgoings remained pretty much the same.

The effects of all this on our members physical and mental health is of course a huge concern.

How can we recover?

In 2021 we fully intend to give our serve up our local community a full cricket season and continue to provide cricket for everyone.

To commit to All Stars, Dynamos, Women's Softball, league, friendly and T20 cricket in 2021 we urgently need to adapt our ground to be able to deliver cricket safely.

What do we need to do?

To deliver Covid safe cricket in 2021 we need:

  • A separate changing facility away from the village sports hall which we currently share with other sports clubs
  • Ball-stop fencing around our ground to prevent cross contamination to equipment and also prevent injury
  • Permanent fixings and an astro turf crease for our batting cage so training can be offered in reduced numbers to keep our members safe

It's a bit of a list and we've our other outgoings to take into account. Our ground fees, maintenance, coaching costs, balls, insurance and other costs all remain the same and in some cases have gone up.

So please take a look at our family friendly community cricket club and help us continue to deliver cricket for all ages, all backgrounds and all abilities here in beautiful south Leicestershire. Help our club recover from the effects of the Covid 19 pandemic,  secure our famous clubs future and ensure we can safely deliver cricket for everyone in 2021
