3-night stay at Steele’s Mill in the Eden Valley - worth £800

Enjoy a 3-night stay at this beautifully converted corn mill in a quiet, idyllic setting on the banks of the River Lyvennet in Cumbria. Take in the wonderful views and become acquainted with the inhabitants of the river, which includes kingfisher, dipper, brown trout, heron and the occasional otter. Sleeps 4 across 2 bedrooms, dogs welcome. Available between October to April (excluding mid-December to early January) and flexible based on availability.  

Lunch for two at The Cottage in the Wood - worth £180

Perched 1,000ft up in the Whinlatter Forest above Keswick in the northern Lake District, The Cottage in the Wood is a unique Michelin Star Restaurant with Rooms combining Jack Bond’s creative cooking, boutique-style rooms, friendly service and a warm welcome in a stunning natural setting. 

Both food and drink menus are developed to make the most of the season, a practice which allows The Cottage in the Wood to exhibit and support the work of smaller local growers and producers, as well as minimise their food miles footprint and reliance on imported products.

Two Family Day passes for 4 people each are available to win (one pass per winning entrant). The passes include entry into the village at Center Parcs Whinfell, and access to the Sub Tropical Swimming Paradise. There are lots of other activities on village which can be booked on the day; however, these activities will be charged at full price and are subject to availability.

Enjoy a personal coffee roasting experience with Michael Dunne of Bean & Dunne. Over 3 hours, you will learn about the roasting process, have the opportunity to practice your barista skills, and drink plenty of top-quality specialty coffee. Bean & Dunne is about bringing the exciting world of coffee to those deprived of a trendy coffee shop and café around every corner. We hope to make coffee fun and understandable, and without any snobbery. As we believe there is no right or wrong, as long as it's a good brew for you. The beans are sourced from fully traceable, ethical supply chains with profits reinvested in the coffee-growing communities. Bean & Dunne roastery is located on Keld Farm, Kings Meaburn.

Wildlife Walk in Cumbria for Five People - worth £100

Alongside her role for Futureproof Cumbria as Cumbria Sustainability Network Coordinator, Helen is a volunteer walk leader with HF Holidays and holds a current Outdoor First Aid certificate.  She is offering a day walk for 5 people - date and location to be negotiated, but within a 10 mile radius of Penrith would be preferred. Helen studied Zoology, Botany and Environmental Science at university and would love to share her knowledge and passion for the great outdoors with you.  Participants are responsible for their own transport, refreshments and walking gear, including suitable boots, waterproofs and binoculars.  Sadly, wildlife sightings are not guaranteed, but a fun day out is promised!

Tour of The Fellside Flower Company for four people - worth £60

Tickets for you and 3 guests to join a summer visit to The Fellside Flower Company, a flower farm in Long Marton near Appleby, in 2026.

Tours of the flower farm include a relaxed guided walk around the flower growing areas where flower farmer-florist Emma will explain what they grow, why and how. The Fellside Flower Company was founded in 2017 and is one of several hundred local artisan growers around the UK spearheading the revival of the British cut flower industry. You’ll learn how they grow flowers for gifts, subscriptions and weddings all season and how sustainability is at the heart of the business, providing their family with an income whilst benefitting the environment.

You’ll have time to wander around yourselves, enjoying the blooms, the distant views of the Lakeland fells and simply slow down. Emma will be on hand to answer any questions on flower growing or floristry. Your visit will include fresh tea, coffee and homemade cakes.

Ashley Cooper 'Images from a Warming Planet' book - worth £40rrp

Ashley Cooper is an award-winning climate change photographer and adventurer. Ashley has travelled the world, documenting the impacts of climate change. His travels have taken him to over thirty countries and every continent on the planet. His passion for the subject is fuelled by the knowledge that climate change poses the greatest threat that humanity has ever faced.  

Ashley’s work is published widely in newspapers, books, magazines and on TV around the world. In 2013, he documented what was probably the first known incident of a polar bear starving to death directly as a result of climate change. The photograph was run as the lead, front page story in the Guardian newspaper. 

In 2010, Ashley won the climate change category of the Worldwide Environmental Photographer of the Year Competition.

As founder and director of Small World Consulting he helps organisations of all sizes and sectors to address the challenges of the Anthropocene. He is a professor at Lancaster University, where his research includes supply chain carbon modelling, sustainable food systems and the environmental impact of ICT. He has made numerous speaking, radio and television broadcast appearances to promote public awareness of sustainability and climate change issues. In February 2025, he was awarded the Planet Earth Award by the Alliance of World Scientists for his work on seeking solutions to environmental challenges.

How to Enter

The prize draw opens at 9.00am on 4th November 2025 and closes at 12 noon on 3rd December 2025.  Entries received after the closing date will not be included in the draw.

The prize draw is open to residents of mainland Great Britain (England, Scotland and Wales) aged 18 or over only.  

Winners will be notified by 12 noon on 10th December 2025. Unsuccessful entrants will not be contacted. Winners’ surnames and county will be published on our website www.futureproofcumbria.org.uk.

Entry is via this Crowdfunder page or you can use the free entry route via post (select the free entry route option below for more detail). The receipt from Crowdfunder is the acknowledgement that you have entered the prize draw, you will not receive a ticket from Futureproof Cumbria. Similarly, no ticket will be issued to postal entrants.

Multiple entries per person are permitted, but only one prize per person will be given. Each winning entrant will only be entitled to one of the twenty prizes listed.
