On the 15th September 2021 we'd raised £8,157 with 39 supporters in 28 days. But as every pound matters, we're continuing to collect donations from supporters.
We desperately need your support to raise £10,000. Please donate and help us to equip a new home that will allow local young people to – not just avoid homelessness – but also to flourish, grow and lay down their own roots for the future.
Youth homelessness is an ever-growing problem, and we know that the most acute challenges are often faced by those who are leaving supported accommodation. Last year, our 18+ Hub received over 500 calls for help, and our Floating Support team received 305 referrals from young people in desperate need of guidance and ongoing support.
We're setting up a home in Welwyn Garden City where young people will have the support and guidance of a Live-in Support Worker to help them to develop the social skills, confidence and emotional maturity to live independently.
Using a six bedroom house rented from Welwyn Hatfield Borough Council, we want to create a home – with a family feel – to help transition five vulnerable 18 to 24 year olds, from homelessness to independent living. These are young people who have already demonstrated their ability to improve their lives going forward.
Each tenant’s individual needs will be assessed to devise the best approach to meet their requirements, drawing from over 20-years of experience as a charity, and working closely with a wide range of established partners.
Help may include accessing training and education, preparation for, and finding, employment, financial planning, budgeting, and debt advice, opening a bank account, and eventually, finding accommodation. We expect each young person to stay with us for roughly 18 months. Those leaving Future Roots will be ready to become valuable members of our local community.
By supporting Future Roots, not only will you be turning our house into a home – you’re helping open the door to a brighter future for years to come.
We're so grateful for the support of our grant funders, who've allowed us to secure the running costs for the next two years. But now we need your help to kit out the Future Roots house ready for its first tenants.
To equip and furnish the home, we're appealing to new and existing supporters to help us raise £10,000. We need to buy all-important items like beds, tables, desks, white goods, sofas, curtains, kitchen essentials, and much more.
Please give whatever you can and help us to change young lives by transforming this house into a home. Any funds raised above the total will go towards the on-going running costs of Future Roots to sustain this vital project for as long as possible.
Donate to be part of this vital new project and get the opportunity to add your name, company name, or that of someone special, to a lasting dedication in the Future Roots garden, which we anticipate unveiling in summer 2022.
As a thank you for your generosity – and a reminder of the young lives you'll be helping to transform – you can also choose to get a great reward. This includes a copy of Stories from the Street, a collection of art, writing and photograph by our Live Life members, who have all experienced and overcome homelessness.
Thank you so much for your incredible support. At Herts Young Homeless, we're a small charity with big ambitions. Your help is hugely appreciated by both our passionate and dedicated staff, and by the young people whose lives will be transformed.
