Aim

Funky Fungi Farm aims to bring fresh, sustainable gourmet mushrooms to Monmouthshire, reducing food miles and supporting local communities.

Hi, I’m Callum, the founder of Funky Fungi Farm, a small gourmet mushroom startup based in Monmouthshire. After struggling to find stable work and facing setbacks with traditional funding routes, I realised I needed to create my own opportunity. I’ve always been someone who learns by doing, and once I discovered gourmet mushroom cultivation, something clicked. It gave me a sense of direction, purpose, and the chance to build a future on my own terms.

Funky Fungi Farm is built around a simple idea: fresh, sustainable, locally grown mushrooms that taste better and travel less. Most gourmet mushrooms in Wales are imported from far away, losing quality before they even reach the plate. My vision is to offer something different, mushrooms grown right here in Monmouthshire, harvested at peak freshness, and delivered directly to local markets, restaurants, and households.

My long-term goal is to build a stable small business that supports both myself and my community. I want Funky Fungi Farm to become a trusted local name, known for quality, sustainability, and honest food. Over time, I hope to expand into teaching, community workshops, and local food partnerships, helping more people discover the benefits of growing and eating locally.

How the money will be used:

The funds raised through this campaign will go directly toward setting up a functional grow room, securing a small workspace, and purchasing the equipment needed to start production. This includes environmental controls, shelving, sterilisation tools, substrate materials, and early operating costs. With this foundation in place, I’ll be able to begin growing reliably and consistently, supplying farmers markets first, then restaurants and local shops.

Every pledge helps turn this idea into a real working business, one that gives me the chance to rebuild my life and offer something meaningful to my community.
