Have you ever attended a funeral that simply didn’t do justice to the person who had died?
And have you ever attended a funeral where you felt profoundly moved by the amount of love and authenticity involved?
The Good Funeral Guide knows what makes the difference between a tick box exercise and a meaningful, transformative event.
We are the UK’s only not-for-profit organisation that really understands the importance of a good funeral, and we have been advocating for this for more than 16 years.
We offer a huge amount of free advice, guidance and information on our beautiful website, and we are dedicated to empowering and supporting bereaved people across the UK.
The landscape we operate in is such an important one, but it is so often overlooked. Every year in the UK, more than half a million people die. It is estimated that for every death, nine people are significantly impacted by grief. This means that millions of us are affected by the death of someone we love every year, often with long-lasting consequences on mental health and wellbeing.
If the public had more knowledge and confidence, if more people felt able to create and experience really meaningful, personal funerals, then the whole of society would benefit.
Since 2008, when the Good Funeral Guide began, we have worked non-stop to share information and knowledge about the importance of a good funeral, and help people achieve the best possible experience, even at the saddest of times.
We have always proudly and fiercely refused to compromise our independence and we’ve achieved a huge amount, all the while operating on a shoestring, relying on donations and goodwill for support.
As we look to the future, there is so much more that we want to do.
We’d love to reach tens of thousands of people across the country every year, and inspire everyone who will listen with the understanding of just how impactful and meaningful a funeral can be.
We’d love to host community events around the UK. Local events, where people can come together and hear from great speakers, ask questions and learn about what’s possible when it comes to funerals.
We’d love to run inspirational workshops about how to create meaningful, beautiful funeral ceremonies.
We’d love to create podcasts on all kinds of subjects to do with funerals - we know so many people who have so much knowledge to share, and it would be amazing to capture all this wisdom in one place, so that it’s accessible to all.
We’d love to hold gatherings of like-minded people, both those working in the sector and those just interested in it, bringing people together to share ideas and make connections.
We’d love to co-host open days at natural burial grounds, so people can be introduced to the beauty and simplicity of this environmentally responsible choice.
There is so much work for us still to do, and we know that if we can manage even a fraction of it then the ripple effect will be immeasurable.
Please help us by making a donation to fund our work so that we can reach more people.
All the money we receive will be used to keep spreading knowledge and information - together, we can fundamentally change the way we do funerals in the UK for the better.
Thank you.
