We are raising funds for a new artificial cricket pitch so that our players, from as young as 4, can practice and play in variable weathers
by Bedworth Cricket Club in Bedworth, Warwickshire, United Kingdom
On the 1st April 2022 we'd raised £10,571 with 127 supporters in 52 days. But as every pound matters, we're continuing to collect donations from supporters.
Any extra funds will go towards maintenance of our outdoor nets and in encouraging participation from females both in sport and as coaches and umpires.
Who are we
Bedworth Cricket Club was established in 1861 and sits at the heart of the local community. Our aim is to provide inclusive opportunities in cricket for all.
With no paid staff, all of work is delivered through our fantastic team of volunteers some of whom started out with us from a young age and are now playing an active part in developing our future stars. We rely on social events, charitable donations and income from our club house to fund our club, including holiday clubs and coaching sessions.
We run a variety of cricket sessions to suit all abilities, age and groups:
We truly believe that the club provides a format for anyone to play and enjoy cricket.
The club are currently in the Warwickshire cricket league.
Currently we are trying to raise funds to renew our artificial pitch. This will give players an excellent surface to play on and develop their skills and enjoyment of the game. All funds raised will improve facilities for juniors, Adults, Women, spectators and all stakeholders within the club and community.
Impact of Covid
Over the last couple of years, the club, like many others, has been affected by the pandemic and the inability to fundraise in the normal ways has really impacted us. We are hopeful that this season will bring some stability and that we can reinvigorate our training. Raising funds is key to ensuring our facilities are in good order and we can make the most of our venue.
Renewed Artificial Pitch
We currently have an artificial wicket which is in need of replacement. Renewing this pitch will enable us to offer more training, and of a higher standard, expanding our reach into the community. In particular, the pitch will be used to further enhance the ladies and junior sections of the club. We truly want to make Bedworth cricket club a club for all.
Most of our youth games will be played on the artificial pitch so being able to renew these facilities will mean more opportunities for training and games for those in our junior leagues. We currently have junior teams from u9 to u19, playing other local sides in friendlies and was part of the Warwickshire cricket board set up.
United by Birmingham 2022
We are excited by the prospect of a packed programme of T20 cricket at the upcoming Commonwealth Games in Birmingham and are hopeful that this will inspire and motivate more people to take part in the game. We want to part of that legacy and want to use the opportunity to expand on our commitment to the womens and girls teams in particular. A lot of our members have started with the club from a young age and now involve their families. We are hopeful that the legacy of the Commonwealth Games will encourage more people to join and take part in physical activity.
We will be running our All Stars cricket sessions again this year, together with our Summer Camp, both aimed at the younger age groups, which we hope will be even more successful. We are also planning a Family Fun Day for later in the year and given our location in the heart of Bedworth's public park we are hopeful that the inspiration of the Commonwealth Games with bring extra enthusiasm for the sport and encourage more people to pop along and give cricket a go.
Extra Funding
Any extra funding will go towards growing our club, in particular encouraging more female participation with the aim of establishing and developing the ladies team. We will also use extra funding to develop some of our female and youth players by putting them through formal coaching and umpire qualifications.
The current nets are in need of refurbing with new netting, and repairs to the fencing required. These are available for any club members and the community to use and we actively encourage players to use the club facilities as much as they can
Our aim is to expand our reach and offer further cricket opportunities. In order to do this we need your help to raise funds to ensure our facilities and venue are up to date and as good as they can be.
