Aim

Denied the care she needs again due to administrative malpractice, Ellie is fundraising to pursue specialist treatment.

Denied the care she needs again due to administrative malpractice, Ellie is fundraising to pursue private healthcare for her frozen pelvis & deep infiltrating stage 4 endometriosis. Her issues are ongoing and so the uro-gynaecological issues will not be covered by any insurance.

Aside from the physical damage cause by previous medical interventions, Ellie has also wasted most of her 20s on waiting lists and re-referrals due to a series of administrative and bureaucratic errors. Her most recent clinic, who had sent her through a 2-year second-opinion process & finally confirmed that she had been added to their waiting list for a partial hysterectomy, discharged her without notice, one year into her being on the waiting list. Ellie missed one appointment because despite updating them with her new address repeatedly over the course of the 1 year and 7 months since she moved (and despite reassurances from doctors and secretaries that her details had been updated) all letters were continuing to go to her old address, so she had no idea about the appointment. She also did not receive the text reminder which was used by staff in rebuttal as evidence that she "must have" known about the appointment despite not having the letter.

Below is an estimated budget based on prices at Circle Healthcare, where her preferred specialist consultant is based.

Phase 1 is a generous estimate, as Ellie has previously had her medical records lost by a hospital, and does not have faith that a new specialist will be able to obtain accurate information through previous records.

Phase 1 - Investigation & Consultation - £3350.00

Initial Consultation with DR

£200.00 x 2 = £400.00

Second Opinion with DR 2

£200.00 x 1 = £200.00

Flexible sigmoidoscopy

£2400.00 x 1 = £2400.00

Ultrasound

£350.00 x 1 = £350.00

Phase 2 - Treatment/Surgery - £9840.00

Follow Up appointments

£250.00 x 3 = £750.00

Medication/Blood tests

£210.00 x 1 £210.00

Package hysterectomy

£8880.00 x 1 = £8880.00

Total - £13190

This has always been a last resort for Ellie, one that she had hoped she would never have to turn to, particularly after working so hard with her most recent clinic to explore all possible treatment options, getting second opinions, and then finally being promised the treatment she needed.

She cannot emotionally or physically cope with starting again (this would be for the 4th time) from scratch because of administrative errors and negligence on the part of the hospitals.

She will be transparent about dates and costs and will publish these as and when they occur on a public spreadsheet. If hysterectomy or further major surgery is the chosen treatment, any funds potentially leftover (for example from not having another flexible sigmoidoscopy) will go towards paying for someone to help her recover at home, as she lives on her own.

She is really grateful to anyone and everyone who donates or shares. She knows it will be an extremely difficult and arduous journey, but she knows it is the right one. Ellie also knows too well that there is a bloody cost of living crisis that shows no signs of dwindling and that most people cannot afford to donate. Even just sharing it on social media or spreading the word to people you know is really really appreciated.

If you have any questions please get in touch at [email protected]

Ellie finds it really difficult to talk about this particular health condition and the medical trauma she has experienced alongside it, and so is working carefully and slowly to be able to share more about it.

UPDATE - I've reduced the fundraising amount to exclude the exploratory laparoscopy as it is highly unlikely this will be done without doing a hysterectomy at the same time.
