Make your donation go further
We need to stop the risk of cricket balls landing on our courts by replacing our old, damaged and out date netting.

Who are we?
Almondsbury Tennis Club, located in North Bristol was originally founded over 75 years ago. It is a not-for-profit charity, number 1180208. It has a reputation of being a very friendly "Open to all Wishing to Play Tennis" either through a membership or Pay and Play. Recently it was awarded Club of the Year with Performance Coach of the year by Avon Tennis.

We have a problem
We are part of a sports complex which includes football and cricket as well as tennis. Our neighbours are the cricket club. Over the years bats have improved and players have become much fitter. Like other tennis clubs in the same position, we now run the risk of cricket balls landing on our courts injuring someone. Recognising this a ball flight audit has been undertaken by the English Cricket Board which confirms the problem. Although this has never happened in the past this is always a risk which the Trustees wish to eliminate safeguarding our players. Many of whom are children in our coaching programme which numbers up to 200 a week.

Why are we Crowdfunding?
Over the last two years the club has upgraded the courts and the floodlighting which were both in poor condition. These investments were financed from the club's sinking fund, which has been severely dented and a loan from Avon Tennis for which we say thanks.

The cost to complete the stop netting upgrade is £35,000 owing to its great height. The club has a further £10,000 still in its sinking fund. The plan is to Crowdfund with a target of £10,000 which Sport England has offered to double if the target is met. Should the target be exceeded the balance will be returned to our sinking fund and used for other planned developments. This will enable the club to provide the local community with an even better tennis facility.
Benefits offered by playing tennis
Most people think tennis is just a fun game - but research tells a very different story. Research published by the Mayo Clinic, one of the world's best hospital, has shown that playing tennis regularly can add an extra 9.5 years to your life. The sport offers a full body work out improving not only physical health but mental too. Even more research also shows that tennis players are happier with their social life and life in general than non-players. Food for thought- why not give it a go. We offer a free two month trial.
