The storm arrived and the fence took flight!
Why do we need this?
The Forest Gate Community Garden has been a haven for plants, people and wildlife in the heart of Forest Gate for years. In the middle of Storm Eunice, the fencing that secures the plot (keeping the plants safe and the council happy) blew over and is unable to be saved. WIthout a fence, the plot, and our future on it, is in jeopardy. But with every cloud comes a silver lining; we have an opportunity to make the space more inviting and encourage greater use amongst the community.
Despite the best efforts of our volunteers to patch and repair we need funds to erect a new fence and help preserve the future of the garden.
How will the money be used?
Your donations will go toward the following costs:
£10-12,000 on fencing and labour
£2000 on skip hire and removal of current hoarding
Why is the garden important?
Forest Gate Community Garden has grown out of the passion and dedication of local people. We are run for the community by the community, a FREE space; creating & maintaining green spaces for wildlife, plants & people, supporting enjoyment & learning about nature, promoting an inclusive community & nurturing wellbeing.
Our work includes:
- Supporting educational visits from local schools, nurseries and Childrens' centres
- Providing gardening workshops and expertise with skill-sharing
- Working in partnership to ensure the local area is greener and cleaner for all with public planting projects
- Developing an onsite plant nursery
- Creative collaborations with local community groups and businesses
- Showcasing local green spaces through 'Gardens Trails'
- Maintaining an active volunteer programme
Who will be managing all of the donations?
The community garden is a registered charity and follows strict charity finance rules. The money will be managed by the Charity trustees. The Garden accounts are submitted to the Charity Commision every year and independently audited.
