Jacqueline Waring is fundraising for
Mental Health Research UK
Charity No. 1125538

£2,165
In July 2024 I lost my son to suicide. But he didn't take his own life, he was killed by Schizophrenia. This severe mental illness is still very poorly understood yet in the UK alone over 685,000 people will experience it at some point in their lives. The overall effects on an individual are highly disabling but it is shocking to realise that suicide is the biggest reason for the decreased life expectancy of people with the illness. Schizophrenia also has a huge impact on families trying to support a loved one. I have experienced first hand the harrowing distress of watching a much-loved son become haunted by inner voices and frightening delusions whilst not knowing how to help. Research is urgently needed into how the illness develops, what the risk factors are, effective treatments and appropriate support for sufferers and their families.
Please join us in helping Mental Health Research UK take on Schizophrenia.
Anything you can contribute will help find answers and bring hope.
Thank you.

I am so sorry for your loss of your lovely son, Will. As the founder of Mental Health Research UK, I wanted to let you know how grateful we are that you have chosen our charity for which to fundraise. I set it up in 2008 precisely because the current treatments were so poor for schizophrenia. There has been so little research, and we're trying to change this. Thank you so much for helping us to make a long-term difference. Warmest wishes, Dr Laura Davidson
