Aim

Juice is a South Asian collective and magazine. We're raising funds to be able to print Issue One of Juice: 'What does it mean to be brown?'

1596474475_about-media-page.jpgAt the end of 2019, we founded a South Asian collective and magazine, Juice. Juice is a platform for sharing the lived experiences of the South Asian diaspora. Through our art and writing, we aim to reflect the multifaceted experiences of South Asians and create networks and conversations between individuals.

The nuances of the South Asian diaspora are not often reflected in the mainstream media and creative spaces. With this, the assimilation of the South Asian diaspora with whiteness and ‘western’ culture becomes commonly perceived as a marker of ‘progress’ for multicultural Britain. Juice aims to disrupt the theme of misrepresentation in the South Asian community, to give a platform to a variety of voices; celebrate expression and champion the diaspora without homogenisation. With this, Juice is for South Asians to contribute to and for all audiences to engage with.

Juice was launched and is run by a small team of young people between 18 and 25. Juice is a side hustle for us all. As well as running Juice, the team are studying, working full-time, freelancing, or working on other social justice projects. As a result of this, funding Juice has been difficult, and we’ve not yet been able to produce a physical print edition of first magazine as we hoped.

We have published a digital version of Juice's first magazine, Issue Zero which outlines who we are and the Juice's manifesto for the future of the South Asian diaspora. Through this crowdfunding, we're aiming to be able to print Issue One of Juice: What does it mean to be brown? Find out more at www.juicedroplet.com

The vision that we are working towards is to be able to print collateral (whether this is a magazine, posters etc.) and run workshops centred around South Asian representation, collaboration, and mentorship. If we are successful in gaining funding, the majority of the budget spending will be on our first print issue. Beyond this, we will use our funding for a launch event, promoting and hosting workshops for South Asian creatives and writers.
