We're creating and protecting a memorial to the over 160,000 lives lost to Covid-19 across the UK.
We are family and friends of some of the more than one hundred and sixty thousand people who’ve lost their lives to Covid-19.
The National Covid Memorial Wall now has over 160,000 hearts on it, representing every single person who has passed with Covid-19 upon their death certificate.
Each heart represents someone who was loved. Someone who was lost too soon to Covid-19.
We didn't ask for permission and the project has been led by those who have lost loved ones.
Since we started both Lambeth Council and the Mayor of London, along with Parliamentarians, have committed to do everything they can to help make the wall a permanent place
It's cost tens of thousands of pounds already to create and your funding will help maintain and protect the site, touching up using the high quality paint used on the wall (We've had to account for the British weather to make sure the tributes and hearts can't wash away with the rain), as well as campaigning to ensure it becomes a permanent site of remembrance, reflection and healing for us all.
Please give what you can so we can keep the memorial alive and keep putting on new hearts for those who lose their lives to Covid-19.
Each week volunteers help keep the memorial alive whilst we wait for the Government to commit to helping make it a permanent feature of the Southbank, dedicating hours to keep memories of loved ones from across the UK alive.
£10 pays for 2 pens for volunteers to be able to paint the hearts. Each pen can do between 50 and 100 hearts. We are painting over 150,000.
£20 pays for a hi-viz jacket and mask so volunteers can complete the work safely
£100 pays for a sandwich board so each section can be marked and everyone knows about the National Memorial Wall who passes by and ensure social distancing.
£2000 helps pay for an entire section of the wall. There are 25 sections to complete.
Anything you can contribute is gratefully received.
Like the scale of our collective loss, this memorial is enormous. Small palm-sized hearts will cover more than half a kilometre of a two-metre high wall. It takes the best part of ten minutes to walk the length of it.
We hope everyone in the country will be part of this effort, and together we can share our grief through this overwhelming display of love.
Any funds raised above the costs and upkeep of the memorial will be used by the wider Covid-19 Bereaved Families for Justice campaign.
