Our aim is to protect the future of midwifery by campaigning for safe maternity care, fair support for students, and jobs for new midwives.
Maternity services across the UK are facing increasing pressures, and the future of the midwifery workforce is becoming increasingly uncertain.
According to recent findings from the Royal College of Midwives (RCM), 31% of midwives who qualified last year have been unable to secure employment. Many newly qualified midwives and student midwives approaching qualification this year are now facing the very real prospect of finishing their training but being unable to find a job in the profession they have worked so hard to enter.
This is deeply concerning at a time when maternity services are under strain and when safe staffing levels are essential to provide high-quality care for mothers and babies.
Many student midwives are also graduating with significant student debt, despite entering a profession that is vital to the health of families across the UK.
We believe that families deserve safe, compassionate maternity care, and midwives deserve fair support, opportunities, and recognition for the essential work they do.
That is why our campaign is calling for meaningful change, including:
We are a passionate group of student midwives who care deeply about the future of maternity care and the midwifery profession. We are working together to raise awareness, organise events, and push for meaningful change.
Our entire team is volunteering their time to organise this campaign.
