To provide peer support to those diagnosed with FND and their support network, helping to navigate their diagnosis and create a safe space.
Following diagnosis of FND in December 2023, our charities founding member researched the availability of any face to face peer support groups that she could attend, in order to gain further understanding into the condition and symptoms that she was experiencing
She was astonished to find that there were no groups and therefore decided to set up her own.
The groups initially started very small, but have now grown to have approximately 20 attendees at each session. These sessions run locally every two weeks and we have just secured the use of an additional space, widening our catchment area to support many more individuals.
Our aim is to continue to grow both in attendees to each session and the number of sessions and venues across the North East of England.
FND is a life altering and often debilitating condition with symptoms ranging from limb weakness, paralysis, to speech and cognitive difficulties. Every individual diagnosed with FND will often have a mixture of different symptoms and therefore their requirements for support and assistance vary.
Our aim is to raise awareness of this condition and provide the much needed support that is currently lacking within local communities and within the health sector.
