Who are we?

1744576504_courts_and_pavilion.jpgFernhurst Tennis Club is registered with the Lawn Tennis Association and Pickleball England. We are a welcoming, non-profit, Community Amateur Sports Club with approximately 200 members run by a small group of volunteers. Our LTA coaches provide group sessions and private lessons for all ages, helping players develop their skills in a friendly environment. Members can enjoy social play anytime and during club 'roll-ups'. More competitive match play is offered with inter-club events and via the local tennis league, in which we enter 11 teams. We also run tournaments and social events open to non-members. We are committed to making the tennis club accessible and enjoyable for everyone.

We operate 3 tennis courts (with two pickleball courts) at the beautiful Fernhurst Recreation Ground, which is also the shared home to the local cricket and football clubs. All three sports clubs co-fund the Fernhurst Recreation Ground Trust, which maintains and operates the recreation ground and The Fern Café in the pavilion on behalf of and for the benefit of the local community.

Donations or Rewards?

There are two ways to contribute to our funding appeal: REWARD or DONATION.

✅ By selecting a REWARD we offer you a gift or experience, depending upon the amount of the selected reward, as a 'Thank You' for your contribution.1744579602_rewards_v2.jpg

✅ By making a DONATION you enable us to additionally benefit by claiming Gift Aid and boosting your donation by 25%. If you are a higher rate tax payer, you will also be able to claim 20% tax relief on your donation when submitting your HMRC self assessment form to reduce your income tax bill.

1742904418_se_tnl_portrait_2021_rgb.jpgMatched Funding helps us reach our Target!

Sport England have generously awarded us £11,020 in National Lottery Matched Funding, provided we have at least 25 contributing supporters.

✅ This means your contribution could be multiplied by 2 (or 2.25 with Gift Aid). For example, when you give £20 this adds £40 or £45 to our funds; £100 given multiplies to £200 or £225

How we’ll spend the money raised

The core aim of the project is to install LED floodlights on two of the Club's courts. We also plan to install a simple floodlight control and payment system and upgrade the tennis court gates and aspects of the pavilion facilities. We currently estimate the project will cost between £56,000-£62,000.

We have raised £15,000 already and have been offered a £25,000 loan from the LTA. Our remaining crowdfunding target is £22,100

Community Impact

💡 The Club is currently used by around 500 adults and children.. We have around 200 members and in addition approximately 300 non-members from the local area who have used the courts as part of our Pay & Play system or for coaching programmes.

💡 Installation of the floodlights (to be operated from October to March only) will extend the playing periods into the dark afternoons and evenings after school and work for club members and non-members alike, either for social tennis, coaching sessions or inter-club matches. The floodlights will give more opportunities for beginners, adults, and families to enjoy the sport throughout the year.

💡Tennis is Good for You! It is well known that regular exercise, and tennis in particular, is hugely beneficial to general health and mental wellbeing. We expect all players to benefit, but the principal beneficiaries will be working-age adults and school children.

💡 The Club gives the local children from the primary school FREE access to the tennis courts for an afternoon a week during the summer term to use for the school’s PE curriculum. We also make the courts freely available to the local Cub Scouts for summer evening sessions.

1744576955_young_juniors_v2.jpg💡 We want to be able to provide a consistent all year-round offer to local children and adults to bring new entrants to the sport. Installation of floodlights will enable us to do so throughout the year in the afternoons and evenings, hence providing continuity of coaching and play, which we believe will significantly improve take-up and retention of players.

💡 We believe wider benefits will accrue to the local community by enhancing the Fernhurst Recreation Ground, “buzz” and usage. A successful and thriving tennis club plays its part in supporting this fantastic community asset.
