Raising the funds to deliver a fantastic new Maverick skatepark for Frome
Rotary Club of Frome have teamed up with volunteer community group, Frome Skatepark Project - to fundraise for a new skatepark in Frome.

The old ramps in the Mary Baily playing fields part of Victoria Park are crumbling and will soon be no longer usable at all. Expert designers and builders, Maverick Skateparks, have been chosen as the preferred supplier by Frome Town Council to replace the old ramps with a fantastic new facility that will feature a range of elements suitable for different ages, abilities, skill levels and all wheeled sports disciplines, including skateboarding, scooting, BMX, and wheelchair users.
We've got the backing of Frome Town Council and we are applying for grant funding, including from the National Lottery, but we really need to show that we have the support of the people of Frome.
The draft design suggested by Maverick Skateparks (image below) has received enthusiastic feedback so far and riders cannot wait for it to be built.

It is an expensive project - £400,000 in total - which includes taking out the old ramps, landscaping around the new skatepark and providing seating. We have asked the National Lottery to consider making a grant of £200,000.
We would like to try and raise £100,000 through this crowdfunder. Frome Town Council have already committed £45,000 (plus all the necessary time of their staff involved in making this project happen). Frome Skatepark Project team have already raised £8,000 and Rotary club recently raised £3,700 in their pop-up shop in Frome.
Anything you can offer to support will be spent entirely on the materials needed to build this new skatepark
The new skatepark will support people to come together through an inclusive, welcoming public space that encourages active recreation, social connection and a strong sense of belonging. Designed in collaboration with local young people, families and the wider community, the skatepark features a range of elements suitable for different ages, abilities, skill levels and all wheeled sports disciplines, including skateboarding, scooting, BMX, wheelchair users and WCMX.
The new skatepark will feature seating and informal gathering areas to encourage people to spend time together, supporting positive social interaction and helping communities come together in a shared space, particularly for young people who may otherwise lack safe, inclusive places to meet.
The project will help children and young people thrive by providing opportunities to develop confidence, resilience and positive social and emotional skills. It will contribute to better physical and mental health by promoting regular physical activity and healthy lifestyles.
Free, open-access facilities like this play an important role in addressing health inequalities, particularly for those who may face barriers to participating in organised sport. Riders can exercise without the need for teammates, training schedules and booking a court or lessons which differs to more traditional sports.
There are four simple ways to help us reach our target, and make this project a reality.
1. Make a donation. Don’t delay if you’re going to support us because momentum is key to our success!
2. Sponsor a skatepark feature. See the rewards list for details. If you are a business, we can offer promotional benefits in exchange.
2. Spread the word. Share our project on your social media pages and tell the world to get behind us! The more people we reach, the more support we will get.
3. Fundraise for us. If you want to run your own fundraiser – maybe a sponsored activity or similar – use the 'contact project' button at the top of our page to let us know. Setting up your own page only takes a few minutes and you won’t need any bank details. Just a fun idea!
