About Us, Our Team & What We Aim To Achieve

This special place has been at the very heart of Dover for years – first loved as Stanley’s, then as Bessie’s Lounge, and now proudly reborn as The Bean & Barrel. When it looked like this community favourite might be lost forever, we stepped in to save it, determined to keep its spirit alive for everyone who calls this area home.

At our core, we remain a family-run team, but over these last few months we’ve been joined by wonderful new faces from right here in our community – people who care deeply about this place, and who bring fresh energy and local heart to every part of our day-to-day running.

We are also so happy to welcome Clair – a name so many of you will already know and love. Clair has been a loyal supporter of this venue through every chapter, and has worked alongside every single owner that has come before us. She’s part of the fabric of this place, and we’re thrilled she’s joining us to lead this exciting next stage of our growth.

Every penny we raise will go straight back into making The Bean & Barrel everything it deserves to be: securing our pavement licence, upgrading our outdoor seating area, installing air conditioning for year-round comfort, and carrying out all those essential repairs and improvements that will keep this space welcoming, safe, and somewhere everyone in Dover can be proud of.
