FroHub: Empower Black Women Through Hair & Beauty

Aim

Our hair & beauty appointment booking platform aims to reshape the hugely fragmented, offline, and under-served black hair industry.

What is FroHub? 

FroHub is the online booking platform for black hair and beauty and is reshaping the hugely fragmented, offline, and under-served black hair industry. We are not exclusively a booking platform, but importantly also a forum where black women can learn how to better take care of their hair, read blogs, watch tutorials and exchange ideas; FroHub was conceived as an online Community. We are striving to empower women through technology, by allowing a traditionally-offline industry to move online; which is aligned strongly with the 5th UN Sustainable Development Goal. FroHub was one of only 10 startups selected to be part of Google's Female Founders Accelerator in 2019, and has already been featured in Forbes and the Evening Standard.

Why is it important?

The average high street does not cater to black hair, nor do the major online beauty booking platforms. My friends and family have even been turned away from hairdressers at various times too. Afro hairstyling skills are around, but we have to work harder to find them. So FroHub is working to make life easier for black women, raise their expectations, and ensure they are getting a better service for their hard earned money. Through our booking platform we are empowering black women to book their hair and beauty how they want, where they want and when they want.

Who are we?

The FroHub team is like an advert for United Colours of Benetton! Diversity in thought, as well as ethnicity, has definitely made us a stronger collective. Considering our different ethnic backgrounds FroHub is lucky to have found people who share our work ethos and our aim to build up the Community we champion through support, unity and trust. These are the major reasons why I love working on FroHub: I’m driven by passion and purpose. What we’re working on has the potential to improve the lives of black women worldwide and that is an inspirational thought for me.

What has the feedback been like so far?

The feedback from our Community has been very positive and encouraging.  Below are some of the messages of support we have received so far:

How Will We Spend the Funding?

I have been 'bootstrapping' my business so far. This means I have paid for everything from my savings, whilst also working full time to build the first version (our MVP) of FroHub. Thanks to your support, we will be able to use the funds gathered through your pledges to build the next iteration of our platform, which is essential to take our business to the next stage of its journey. No donation is too little or too big, every pledge is much appreciated.
