Friends of Didsbury Park aim to maintain and beautify the park for the benefit of the local community. In the last 4 years or so members and volunteers have put in over 12000 hours of work in the park in the face of ever more severe local authority cuts, thereby preserving the park as an amenity now regularly attaining the highest standards in the Britain in Bloom competition; also creating from an overgrown and little used cut-through adjacent to the park a poppy path commemorating the end of WW1.

Didsbury park is a local community facility that provides green spaces for relaxation, social contacts, exercise and enjoyment of nature. The park has a playground, football and basket ball grounds, a bird garden, wildflower meadow, bowling green and a community centre and cafe. The Friends of Didsbury park look after the trees and flower beds, have installed benches and do most of the general maintenance and repairs. They also ensure that the park stays clean and keep it accessible for all, including wheelchair users. Manchester City Council provides some support but most of the work is done by volunteers. The Friends of Didsbury Park have raised funds for plants, benches, renovation of the poppy path and many other projects. Without their fundraising efforts and the large weekly input from volunteers the park would quickly fall into disrepair. The continuing support from grant giving bodies and the local community is vital for the park to survive.
The website provides weekly updates on our work, and the pictures of the park throughout the year show its beauty and how well it is looked after.
