Aim

We aim to continue to care for and maintain the churchyard, to keep it looking at its best; by cutting the grass, hedges and shrubs.

The Friends of Wooler Churchyard was set up to help the small and ageing congregation of St Mary's Church to maintain and manage the churchyard extension on Burnhouse Road in Wooler. The Friends take care of grass cutting, hedge cutting and shrub maintenance in and around the churchyard. The financial burden is greater than the present congregation can bear and the Friends are able to help with this due to their members supporting with regular donations. This is not sustainable in the long-term, and until the churchyard is handed over to the care of the Local County Council, the finances have to be supplemented. This is why we have set up this page - in an effort to encourage others with a vested interest in helping in any way they can. Money raised will go towards paying for fuel for the lawnmowers and strimmers etc, but also for periodic assistance from external professionals.

We hope to raise enough money to help with the maintenance for at least one year, until the County Council are able to take over the responsibility of care.
