Friends of the Vox is a charity committed to promoting and encouraging community through the power of choral music on a local, national and global stage. The Charity was founded following the global Covid-19 pandemic, which had a devastating effect on the arts, especially in the UK. With live performances off the cards and both professional and amateur choirs halted in their tracks, the importance and influence of music and choral singing became ever more clear.
As the sector continues to recover, it is our ambition as a charity to create a positive impact in the world through the power of music, not only through our two amateur choirs, but also through an array of community outreach initiatives and support for professional musicians.
We are currently raising funds to support the recording phase of our Emerging Composers 2024 project, which is scheduled to take place at the VOCES8 Centre in London in May this year. We hope that you will join us in supporting our vision, and together we can nurture a passionate musical community.
In support of Emerging Composers around the world, Friends of the Vox was delighted to run its inaugural Emerging Composers Competition in collaboration with the Music of Dan Forrest in January of 2024.
100 submissions were received from composers representing 19 countries and a 50-year age range, writing outstanding new music for treble choirs.
In September 2024 three prize winners were announced, after extensive blind adjudication by our judges, Dr James Meaders and Dr Dan Forrest.

Vox Anima Chamber Choir presented the World Premiere performance of the first-prize winning piece, "O Oriens", by Anna Rocławska-Musiałczyk, at the Friends of the Vox Upper Voices Festival at St Peter's Eaton Square, London, in November 2024.

As we enter the next phase of this exciting project, we are appealing to our wonderful community for support, to enable us to produce professional recordings of the winning entries.
The recordings will take place at the beginning of May this year. Vox Anima Chamber Choir is extremely excited to be working and recording at the VOCES8 Centre, the home of the VOCES8 Foundation and an international centre for vocal excellence, education, and performance, located at St Anne & St Agnes Church in the heart of the City of London. The Choir has been busy rehearsing and refining the pieces, working passionately to represent the unique musical landscapes each of the composers has created!
