PLEASE HELP US TO RESTORE A PRECIOUS PART OF GLASTONBURY’S HERITAGE Protecting Wilf’s Field: A Community-Led Conservation Project

Who We Are

We are a group of Windmill Hill residents who have come together to form a Community Interest Company (CIC) with a shared purpose: to protect and restore a cherished piece of land off Selwood Road, Glastonbury — once owned by the late Wilf Peddle.

This land holds unique significance for the town:

• It is home to St. Edmund’s Well, a sacred local landmark.

• It includes surviving remnants of historic apple orchards, connecting us to Glastonbury’s centuries-old apple-growing traditions.

Our Vision

We are working to purchase and safeguard this land, transforming it into:

A Memorial Orchard planted with heritage apple and fruit varieties

A sanctuary for wildlife and biodiversity

A place of community connection, learning, and wellbeing

By protecting this land from inappropriate development, we aim to create a living legacy that honours the natural, cultural, and agricultural heritage of Glastonbury.

What We Plan to Do

Restore the Orchard

• Preserve the remaining heritage trees

• Plant new trees dedicated to local milestones: births, weddings, lives of loved ones

• Promote local food resilience with seasonal fruit harvests

Protect the Ecosystem

• Conserve St. Edmund’s Well and its watershed

• Enhance biodiversity through careful land stewardship, hedgerow maintenance, and light seasonal grazing by a local farmer

Offer Community Activities

• Forest school sessions for children

• Adult workshops on orchard care, harvesting, wildflower meadows, and land-based skills

• Volunteering opportunities for all ages

Support Wellbeing & Connection

• Create a space for small-scale community events

• Foster mental health, community ownership, and practical skills in sustainable land management

Why It Matters

Glastonbury has already lost many of its traditional orchards. Wilf’s Field offers a rare chance to protect a living link to our past, while also creating a vibrant, regenerative space for the future.

Please help us make this vision a reality!

Help Us Raise Funds to Restore This Land for Future Generations

We’re reaching out to ask for your support in raising £20,000 to help towards our goal.

Thanks to the generosity of our community, who have kindly given donations/pledges, I am happy and proud to say we managed to raise enough funds to be able to bid on and successfully win the land at auction on Sept 25 2025!!! Thanks to all involved!

By contributing to our Crowdfunder, you’ll be playing a vital role in helping us restore this important piece of land — not just for today, but for generations to come.

Whilst we have now successfully bought theland, the Crowdfunder is still running for another few days, so if you wish contribute by donating, your funds will be used by us to help restore the orchard and well and maintain the land and hedgerows etc.

Every donation, large or small is kindly appreciated. Will you help?

This project successfully funded on 1st October 2025
