All funds raised will be used to subsidise the ticket prices and cover the costs of the event as we run it on a not-for-profit basis. We want the LALYs to be as accessible as possible for all legal aid lawyers and their friends and family.
Become a Friend of LALY24 and show your support for social justice by donating to help sponsor the Legal Aid Newcomer award. This award celebrates the vital and inspiring work done by newer entrants who are the future of our profession.
You can become a Friend of LALY24 from as little as £10. All donors will be rewarded with a mention on screen during the in-person ceremony on 5 July, and in the ceremony programme which will be available to all our 500+ guests on the night. We will also give you a thank you on social media. (Donors can also opt for anonymity, if they prefer.)
This is the seventh time we have crowdfunded for sponsorship of the Newcomer award, and we have always been overwhelmed by the level of solidarity shown, which confirms the specialness of these awards. Hundreds of individuals and organisations have previously donated, ranging from trainees to managing partners, senior members of the judiciary, and individual firms and chambers. All the money raised will go towards the cost of staging the event (which is non-profit-making) and to help us keep ticket prices as affordable and inclusive as possible.
Friends of LALY24 will be listed in the order in which their donations were made.
Since they were launched in 2003 by Legal Aid Practitioners Group, the LALY awards have been a celebration of the important and often life-changing work done by grassroots, publicly-funded lawyers. This year’s 22nd anniversary ceremony will be held on 5 July 2024 in central London and will be a party to remember.
To keep our admin costs to a minimum, all donations must be made via the Crowdfunder site. The deadline for Friends of LALY24 donations is 22 April 2024 (which coincides with the close of awards nominations). To nominate someone for a LALY award, go to our online nomination form. All the winners, including Legal Aid Newcomer, will be announced at the ceremony on 5 July 2024. Tickets for the ceremony are available on a strictly first come, first served basis. It is always our policy to give a set number of free tickets to each year’s finalists, which means the tickets we have available to sell are very limited. Please note, being a Friend of LALY24 does not guarantee the right to attend the ceremony. To purchase tickets please visit our Eventbrite page.
