Help celebrate the incredible work of new legal aid lawyers and their positive impact on legal aid as they are the future of the profession
Become a Friend of LALY20! In 2016, the LALY awards broke new ground by crowdfunding sponsorship for the Legal Aid Newcomer award, which celebrates the vital and inspiring work done by newer entrants to our profession. We were bowled over by the response, which confirmed the specialness of the LALY awards, and each year since the response has been even better! As before, you can become a Friend of LALY20 from as little as £10. All donors will be rewarded with a mention in the ceremony programme, on screen on the night, and on social media. (Donors can also opt for anonymity, if they prefer.) Over 80 people and/or organisations donated to become Friends of LALY19. They ranged from trainees, to senior members of the judiciary, to individual firms and chambers. The sums given were from £10 to £500, and we raised a whopping £5,070 (against our original target of £4,000). With your help, this year we hope to do even better! All the money raised will go towards the cost of staging the event (which is non-profit-making) and to help us keep ticket prices as affordable as possible. Friends of LALY20 will be listed in the order in which their donations were made. Since they were launched in 2003 by the Legal Aid Practitioners Group, the LALY awards have been a celebration of the important and often life-changing work done by grassroots, publicly-funded lawyers. This year’s ceremony will be held on 7 July 2020 in central London. To keep our admin costs to a minimum, all donations must be made via the crowdfunder site. The deadline for Friends of LALY20 donations is 3 April 2020 (which coincides with the close of awards nominations). To nominate someone for a LALY award, go to our online nomination form. All the winners, including Legal Aid Newcomer, will be announced at the ceremony in central London on 7 July 2020. Tickets for the ceremony are available on a strictly first come, first served basis. It is always our policy to give a set number of free tickets to each year’s finalists, which means the tickets we have available to sell are very limited. Please note, being a Friend of LALY20 does not guarantee the right to attend the ceremony. To purchase tickets please visit our Eventbrite page. If you have any questions about making a donation or the LALYs more generally, contact LAPG CEO Chris Minnoch via 'Contact' www.lapg.co.uk
