Fear comes in many forms: God, death and your mum who told you to take the chicken out of the freezer. Help us tell this universal story
Mum said Pondu Madeusu is on the menu tonight and all you had to do is take the chicken out the freezer before she's back; sounds simple right? Only a fool could mess that up ...or fools. One MASSIVE oversight means that two brothers must lock-in, race against time, and make sure the chicken has defrosted before mum gets home.
Freezer unapologetically pokes fun at the things you’re probably not supposed to laugh at, turning a universal experience into a nostalgic, bittersweet tribute to one childhood trauma: forgetting to take the chicken out of the freezer.
It takes audiences back to a time when their biggest responsibility was defrosting dinner, where a simple mistake could feel like life or death.
At its heart, Freezer is about more than just a missed chore. It’s about memory, family, and the small moments that felt monumental growing up. By centring a familiar experience through a Black British lens, the film celebrates joy, humour, and the richness of everyday life. These are stories that are often overlooked, but deeply universal.
Written by Black British Theatre Award nominee, actor, and Hackney's favourite equestrian, Christopher Mbaki, stars alongside his brother Prince-Julien Mbaki. Freezer brings together a bold, fresh creative team committed to telling stories with heart, humour, and originality.
