We must raise funds to aid in securing Aafia's release so she can return to her family in Pakistan and receive proper medical care.
Dr Aafia Siddiqui is a Pakistani neuroscientist and mother of three who is currently held in a Texas Federal Prison, enduring the 13th of an 86 year sentence for attempted murder. Dr Aafia is traumatised by the torture she has suffered, is the victim of continued beatings, and unless we act she will die in prison. With your help we can get Aafia the legal representation she so desperately needs and bring Aafia home to her family in Pakistan once and for all.
The circumstances of Aafia’s arrest and extradition are shrouded in secrecy, the evidence presented at trial was riddled with inconsistencies, large swathes of it were held inadmissible due to its handling and much of it was extorted by torture. While no judge or jury found her guilty of harming anyone, Aafia was shot in the torso whilst in US custody.
Thus, Dr Aafia Siddiqui has been denied due process, caught up in the same drag net of the ‘War on Terror’ that saw hundreds of men kidnapped and rendered to the notorious Guantanamo Bay Detention Center. Clive Stafford Smith is a civil rights attorney and the Director of the non-profit 3DCentre who fought for Guantanamo detainees’ right to legal representation and has since helped secure the release of 85 men. It is now time to do the same for Dr. Siddiqui.
A message from Fowzia Siddiqui:
"My poor younger sister Aafia was torn from our family and her children 15 years ago
I am very happy that Clive Stafford Smith is helping her. Clive brings a wealth of experience with him after 20 years demanding justice for so many victims of the so-called Global War on Terror."
This project aims to raise funds to resolve a claim, or other type of dispute. Neither Crowdfunder nor the Project Owner can guarantee the outcome of that dispute, or that it will be resolved at all. Due to the uncertain nature of disputes, it is not possible for the Project Owner to be sure that the amount it raises will be enough to resolve the dispute or to see it through to its conclusion. If the desired outcome of the dispute is achieved in the first instance, it may be subject to appeal and may be overturned. However, while some of the funds may be used to defray the incidental costs of representation, including travel, experts and investigation, the lawyers in this case will never charge the client a fee for their work.
