I have written a short children's book about organ donation. I hope to get it published and printed for all the NHS trusts in the UK.

 New stretch target

The more money I raise, the more copies of the book I can get printed and send to hospitals around the country.

About me

I am a Staff Nurse working in Intensive Care in Wigan. I have seen how organ donation can be a difficult subject to talk about, and for young children to understand.  I wanted to write a children's book that they could read with their family members that explained a little bit about organ donation and how it can bring something positive from a negative.

About the book: Freddie and the Magic Heart

Freddie finds out, with the help of his dad. How organ donation, can bring some good from the bad.

Join Freddie and his dad as they discover how organ donation can make something special happen when someone loses a loved one.

An extract from the book with draft illustrated pages

Freddie’s mummy was poorly,

Freddie knew she was sick.

“I’ll be brave” Freddie said,

“But I hope she’s home quick”

A draft illustrated page

“Fred” said his daddy,

“Mum is really not winning,

And sometimes, if we lose,

It can be the beginning...”

“I don’t understand, Dad”

Said Fred, looking sad.

“How can something good start,

When things are horribly bad?”

“Well, Son, it’s simple”

Dad explained with a smile.

“But have a sit down,

This could take a while.”

“When someone is dying,

It can be just the start,

When Mum doesn’t need it,

She can give away her heart.”

“All that love that we’ve shown her,

It has built up inside,

Now that love could help someone,

And give us some pride.”

“Your mum’s heart could live on,

And give life to another.

It could help someone’s grandad

Or somebody’s big brother.”

The Plan

I would like to raise £4500 to get the book published and print 2000 copies so that I can distribute them to all NHS hospital trusts in the UK. The more I can raise, the more copies I can print and help to spread the word about organ donation and all the people it can help.

Book Sales

Once the book is printed and distributed, all profits from further sales of the book will go to the Donor Family Network to help them continue the great work they do, providing high quality support to donor families.
