by Dr Tanzil Chowdhury in Manchester, England, United Kingdom

Northern Police Monitoring Project (http://npmp.co.uk/) and the Racial Justice Network (http://www.racialjusticenetwork.co.uk/) are raising money to fund grassroots anti-police brutality and anti-racist community-oriented projects and events. NPMP is an independent, grassroots organisation working with communities  facing police harassment, brutality & racism. The Racial Justice  Network seeks to bring about holistic, economic, spiritual &  cultural  repairs to end racial injustice & address legacies of  colonialism. The money will be used for a variety of projects, including  'know your rights' workshops, training members of our community to  monitor and document police abuse and organise crucial public events that support family campaigns fighting against police  brutality and racial injustice.

All proceeds will be used to keep our future community events for the Northern Police Monitoring Project (http://npmp.co.uk/) and the Racial Justice Network (http://www.racialjusticenetwork.co.uk/) FREE

For one such event, we will be hosting a panel discussion with Professor Kathleen Cleaver, former Black Panther and scholar at the Emory University School of Law  who will be speaking in Manchester. Professor Cleaver was the communications secretary for the Black Panther Party. She organised and promoted the important work of the organisation before fleeing to Algeria in 1960. After returning back to the US, she received a full scholarship at Yale University before clerking in the US Court of Appeals in Philadelphia. This will be an amazing opportunity to hear the experiences and  wisdom of someone at the forefront of the anti-police brutality and  racial justice struggle.

Kathleen will be speaking in Manchester on Wednesday 20th June. The venue, FREE tickets and details of other high-profile speakers will be released a few weeks before the event so keep an eye out on our website (above), facebook (search us) and twitter (@npolicemonitor)!!
