Why I need your support
I'm aiming to raise enough funds to:
a) Give a live launch concert of my new album, 'For The Love Of Life', an uplifting response to the challenges of our times.
b) Livestream the performance.
If you would like a ticket to attend the event in person, or to livestream it, don't forget to select the reward on the right hand side of this page!
The funds will pay for all the musicians (except me!), the venue, audio engineer and the live streaming. Unless social distancing restrictions are lifted I'll only be able to offer 70 tickets (for a 300 seat auditorium!), which will cover only about 20% of the costs. Although there are hopes that these restrictions might be lifted during the summer, the event is planned for the autumn. With so much uncertainty, your contribution will ensure the concert happens.
Since setting out on my music career in 2013 I've only given solo performances at the piano. I'd love the opportunity to perform my own music with others. Plus, an album project doesn't feel complete to me until I've also performed it.
The concert will be on Saturday 16th October, at the Universal Hall in Moray, which will coincide with the album release.
In return for your support please enjoy something from the list of rewards, which include a signed copy of the album one week in advance of the release date, tickets (limited to 70) to join us in the Universal Hall and digital scores of the music. Any support will be very appreciated. I really hope we can step onto the stage this autumn. Thank you!
The Musicians
Joining me at the piano will be four of Scotland's leading string players. Drawn from the ranks of the Scottish Chamber Orchestra and Scottish Ballet they are also members of the celebrated Scottish group Mr McFall's Chamber. The vocalist is the supremely talented Hannah Rarity, BBC Scotland's Young Traditional Musician Of The Year in 2018.
The Album
The collection of 12 new works is a celebration of the essential beauty of the human spirit and its capacity to overcome adversity. It’s an emotive, sensitive and ultimately uplifting response to the challenges of our times.
The album will be released on October 15th 2021 by the award-winning independent classical and jazz label, Signum Classics.
The Rewards
In return for your very appreciated support there are a number of different rewards on offer. These include tickets to stream the concert online, a limited number of signed albums and a chance to acquire one of three hand written scores for the track 'Hope' (taken from the album), written out on a beautiful scroll of paper and delivered to your door.
To get multiple rewards from those on offer, simply make additional pledges and select a different reward each time.
All rewards include UK postage. For overseas postage please contact Alexander on the email at the bottom of this page.
About Alexander
Alexander's music has become known for its striking beauty and originality. Described by Positive News as ‘not jazz, not classical, not improvised, but a glimpse of something new’, and by ClassicFM as ‘refreshingly original’, it isn’t easily described or placed into a genre.
Born into a family of artists, Alexander grew up in rural Scotland. After leaving school he decided not to continue his formal musical studies; instead, at the age of nineteen, he moved to northern Scotland where he lived in the world renowned eco-village and spiritual community, The Findhorn Foundation. During his time there, he completed his debut collection for solo piano, Sketches Of Light, which he’d begun during his early teenage years. Discovered by ClassicFM in 2013 and placed as Album of the Week, the Sketches became instantly popular and have since been aired extensively across the station. The album, described by ClassicFM as ‘hauntingly beautiful’, was re-released by Decca Records in 2014 and has featured widely across TV and Radio.
In 2016 he released Portraits of Earth, his second collection for solo piano, ‘dedicated’, in Alexander’s own words, ‘to the beautiful place we all share, the living world we call Earth’.
This was followed in April 2018 by the release of his third album Journey to Nidaros, composed during a 650km solitary pilgrimage across Norway and written down when he returned home. Offering a remarkable musical journal of his experiences, the album went to No.1 in the UK Specialist Classical Charts, and No.5 in the ClassicFM chart. The story of his journey was featured on the popular BBC Radio 4 Ramblings programme.
In 2019, Alexander started a new collaboration with the award-winning record label, Signum Classics. October 2021 will see the release of his first collaborative album, For The Love Of Life. With Alexander returning to the piano, the album features four string players from the celebrated Scottish group, Mr McFall’s Chamber, and starring guest vocalist Hannah Rarity.
Alexander lives and composes in the North-East Highlands of Scotland.
