For the Accommodation of the County is a short film about persistence in the face of adversity, depicting unhoused characters with health conditions that are often overlooked in film and TV.

We are a team of award-winning filmmakers, from and/or based in Cornwall, who need your help to produce For the Accommodation of the County.
Last year, we had the pleasure of creating Olympian, a short film about a woman with multiple disabilities as she goes about her daily tasks. We’re proud to say that Olympian has been recognised globally on the festival scene, winning awards at the Film Olympiad Film Festival, the Best Shorts Competition LA, and the Austin International Arts Festival.

Featuring a fully Cornish cast and produced by a small crew of up-and-coming filmmakers, For the Accommodation of the County aims to keep things local, shooting on the South Coast of Cornwall, and utilising a sprinkling of the native language.

Jowan Jacobs

Penzance-born actor Jowan Jacobs has featured in high-profile films such as the BAFTA-award-winning Bait (2019) and Fisherman’s Friends: One and All (2022). He has starred in multiple short films, including the Bosena-produced Pen Mari (2025) and Studio Erma’s Open Country (2023). Jowan is currently performing in Miracle Theatre’s Peer Gynt, which is touring around Cornwall this summer.
Steve Jacobs

Father to Jowan, and with a wealth of experience in theatre, film and TV, Steve Jacobs has enjoyed roles in everything from Poldark (2015) to The Bill (1988). He has featured in feature films such as The Dreadful (2025) and Tin (2015), and theatre productions such as Carrie’s War (2024) and Waiting for Godot (2015). He is currently performing in David Wood’s adaptation of Goodnight Mr Tom at the Minack Theatre, and has starred in an array of short films.
Both Steve and Jowan have type 1 diabetes and are excited to bring an authenticity to its depiction, consulting on the script, and offering advice and guidance to our dedicated crew.

A mix of Falmouth University alumni and Cornish creatives, our crew is raring to continue their filmmaking journey.

Having lived in Cornwall for almost five years, I want to portray the culture in the way I have experienced it. Intimate, resilient, and rooted. I intend to make a film that carries the weight of its themes while also imbuing a sense of hope and liberation.
We believe that our crew should not be asked to pay out of pocket to be part of the film industry (as is often the case!) and should instead be compensated for their time and skills. A large part of the funds we are raising will be going towards paying the crew.
Whilst we have already accrued over half of the film's budget, we need help reaching our goal. We are looking to raise £900 in order to help cover various costs such as location fees, transport fees, catering and equipment costs.
Once the film is complete, we will be submitting it to local and international film festivals in the hopes that it will shed light on the experience of someone living with type 1 diabetes and capture the raw, untamed beauty of Cornwall.
