A girls' football club started in Abu Dis, Palestine roughly three years ago - a really exciting new initiative for girls in the town where life is tough for everyone and girls have even fewer chances.
Football 4 Freedom follows other great exchanges that CADFA has organised over the past 14 years – we aim to give a team of girl footballers the opportunity to come to Britain, meet girls from the UK, play football together and tell each other about their lives.
Abu Dis was part of the Jerusalem suburb until Israel cut it off from Jerusalem on the west by the huge Israeli Separation Wall and from Bethlehem to the south by a major military checkpoint. The village lands to the east have been taken by a series of Israeli settlements (no-go areas for Palestinians) and the way to to the north and Ramallah is by complicated and dangerous roads through military areas, past checkpoints, walls and settlements.
As the population rises and the space available to play gets built on, the young people of Abu Dis are increasingly confined. Help us make a window on the world for these young people and (through them) for their families and friends. Help them tell their stories to young people of their age in Britain. Help young people in the UK broaden their sympathies by spending time with young people from a different place.
CADFA used to get European funding for our youth exchanges but we can’t count on that this time – We are going to raise the money in a combination of ways:
OUR CENTRAL FUNDRAISING GROUP is setting out to raise £10,000 from this crowdfunder plus a raffle, events, and appeals. This will us to bring a small group of girls. But we want to bring a bigger group and will do this by raising more centrally and by having PARTNER groups who will sponsor individual players – would your youth group/ sports group or other like to be a partner?
Please do help as much as you can, and share this Crowdfunder wherever you think you can find interest!
