After operating for 4 years in the heart of Redruth we are looking for help to expand and grow our community garden and our offerings.
Update; Our project has applied to and been approved for match funding by the Cornwall Climate and Nature Fund. To unlock their support we need to raise £3,100 (50% of our project target) and they will match it!

About Us & Our Vision
We are Food Troops CIC. a small team of local people; growers, food-enthusiasts, chefs, parents, neighbours and community-builders based in the heart of Redruth. For the last four years, we’ve been transforming a once-unused classroom and land in the heart of Victoria Park, creating a community kitchen and a thriving hub of growing, cooking, learning and connection.
Everything we do is rooted in the belief that everyone deserves access to nourishing food, nature, and community. We’ve seen first-hand how growing even a handful of herbs can boost confidence, how sharing a simple bowl of soup can reduce loneliness, and how bringing people into the garden brings out a sense of pride and belonging.
Our team is made up of volunteers, families, young people, and local residents who give their time, skills and hearts to keep this project alive. Together, we rescue surplus food, run gardening clubs for families and the elderly, host workshops and a kid's holiday club, support people with additional needs, and cultivate a space where everyone is welcome.
We are now proud to host Food For All Cornwall who comes in and cooks and offers food for ALL for free on 'The Round Table' each week, reducing loneliness and improving access to food.
Our Idea: Breathing Life Back Into the Greenhouse Space
At the centre of our garden sits an old, dilapidated greenhouse — a space with huge potential but currently beyond use. We want to transform it by installing a new polytunnel over the frame, turning a tired structure into a vibrant, weather-proof community hub.
This polytunnel will give us:
🌱 Extra growing space for vegetables, herbs and seedlings, working alongside Resilient Orchards Cornwall and Incredible Edible Redruth to have a larger space to provide fruit trees and edible plants for our local town and surrounding parks and community orchards.
🌿 Room for workshops on gardening, permaculture and food education, expanding our capacity and room for learning, bringing in schools, nurseries and for our holiday sessions with Active Cornwall & the time2move programme and well as for our WelFed project, working alongside Grassroots Gardens CIC and Volunteer Cornwall to provide socially prescribed workshops on managing diabetes.
🍽️ A large feasting table for community meals, celebrations and outdoor gatherings, we will host chefs and cook from an outdoor pizza oven.
👩🌾 Shelter for volunteers and groups during wet weather
🌼 A year-round space for wellbeing sessions, home-ed groups, youth services and community events
This isn’t just a building — it’s a way to grow more food, grow more community, and grow more opportunities.
How We Will Use the Money Raised
Every pound you donate will directly support the transformation of this space. ALL Funds will go towards:
A full-sized polytunnel cover & frame to fit over the existing base
Ground preparation and repairs to make the structure safe and long-lasting
Materials such as doors, fixings, ventilation and raised beds
A large community feasting table built from reclaimed or sustainable timber
Workshop equipment so we can run more hands-on sessions with families, young people and volunteers
With your support, we can turn a forgotten corner of the garden into a beautiful, functional and inclusive space that will serve our community for years to come.

Promoter
This prize draw is run by Food Troops CIC, Redruth, Cornwall.
Eligibility
The draw is open to residents of Great Britain aged 18 and over.
Employees or anyone directly connected with the running of the draw are not eligible to enter.
How to Enter
You can enter the prize draw in two ways:
Paid Entry
By selecting a reward on this Crowdfunder page that includes entry into the prize draw. Each qualifying pledge equals one entry unless otherwise stated. There is no limit to the number of entries. ALL PROCEEDS TOWARD THE CROWDFUNDER
Free Entry Route
To enter for free, email [email protected] with your full name and contact details, using the subject “Prize Draw Entry”.
Free entries must be submitted before the closing date and will be counted equally to paid entries.
Opening and Closing Dates
The prize draw opens on 28/2 and closes on 1/4

Winner Selection
Winners will be selected at random from all valid entries using a fair and transparent process.
Winner Notification
Winners will be contacted within 7 days of the closing date via email or phone.
If a winner does not respond within 7 days, a new winner may be selected.
Prize Delivery
Prizes will be arranged with winners directly and delivered or fulfilled within a reasonable timeframe.
Funding Model
Prizes will be awarded regardless of whether the funding target is met.
Data Protection
Personal data will only be used for the administration of this prize draw and in line with our privacy policy
General
Food Troops reserves the right to amend or cancel the draw if necessary due to unforeseen circumstances.
