Creating food growing areas and improving Financial Awareness. The growers manage a small garden area and they and the community benefit.
We will create food growing beds around the Glencorse Centre.
The beds will be placed around a nature walking trail that goes around the grounds. Walkers will be encouraged to talk to the gardeners and also lend a hand if they are interested in helping out for a short period.
Those that volunteer at the centre will be given priority on the allocation of growing beds to manage themselves or jointly with a few others.
All funders and volunteers will be given free access to our Financial Essentials online course to improve their financial awareness. In addition we will hold face to face sessions with the volunteers to discuss topics within the course and provide further free financial information from our Chartered Financial Planner who is one of the project leaders.
The majority of the bed space will be for growing vegetables. The volunteers that maintain the beds can keep half the food they grow with the other half being used in the community café to provide low/minimal cost meals on a regular basis.
The growing beds will be located around a nature park that allows people to relax or also take part in activities in a family friendly environment at a minimal or no cost.
