To deliver healthy food parcels to vulnerable people’s homes during the crisis with enough supplies to feed a household for two days.
The Coronavirus outbreak is preventing FoodCycle from holding our community meals which has been such a lifeline to vulnerable people suffering from food poverty and loneliness. These people need our help now more than ever. Without vital access to healthy food, many are at heightened risk of contracting the virus as their weakened immune systems are further eroded. For those suffering from loneliness, the crisis is denying them what little social contact they had.
FoodCycle is responding by providing a food delivery service, delivering essential, healthy food parcels to people’s homes with enough supplies to feed a household for at least two days. Right now we are trialling this in cities in each of the six regions in which we operate across England. Help us roll out our service to reach more vulnerable people in need of basic supplies. Hitting our £2,000 target would enable us to distribute 9,000 food parcels.

Enabling lonely and vulnerable people to make social connections is one of FoodCycle’s core aims. Many of those we support are already extremely isolated - this crisis will only exacerbate this now we have had to suspend our community services. To address this, we are also developing a process for enabling virtual chats and phone calls for our guests and volunteers to connect, echoing our community meal model.
