We’re restoring the Folkestone Leas Lift — a community landmark built in 1885. Join us in bringing it back!
Thanks to the incredible generosity of our community so far, the restoration of the Folkestone Leas Lift is well underway. But there is still much more to do — and your support remains vital.
Every donation made here helps us continue the journey to fully restore this iconic, water-powered funicular and secure its future for generations to come. Your contribution will support essential heritage conservation work as well as our growing programme of community engagement and education.
And for those wishing to leave a lasting mark, engraved brass plates are still available for donations of £250 or £500. Both options include your personal message fixed to one of the 104 railway sleepers on the Lift — becoming a permanent part of its story. £500 donors will also enjoy a VIP pre-opening ride as one of the first to travel on the restored Leas Lift.

In its 140 years of existence, the Folkestone Leas Lift has been a silent witness to the transformation of the town: from fishing village to Victorian seaside resort, through wartime resilience to the creative seaside destination it is today. As one of only a handful of water-balanced lifts left in the world, its continuing presence connects Folkestone’s past, present and future like nothing else.
