Aim
To help Foldout Theatre Company stage their first play Macbeth which will take place on Nov 11-14 2026, at Burns Street Studios in Glasgow.
Foldout Theatre Company
Foldout was created by Oat Jenner in 2025 as a professional theatre company that is a creative community. We 'Fold out' to artists from all backgrounds to create, collaborate and be part of our community.
By creating a space with community as the pillar of the work, this has allowed us to meet like minded people and form friendships that are invaluable to us.
Foldout has been set up in the hope to create an alternative model and narrative to disrupt the status quo. We believe creativity in itself is abundant, and as a result, there should be diversity, variety and risk in art being made.
Why Macbeth?
The play is a tragedy because the protagonists choose themselves over their community. They choose power and an individualistic mindset in order to achieve their goals. This eventually leaves them separated and leads to the Macbeths' demise. But also Macbeth is a story about resilience. The righteous people come back to claim the throne and give Scotland a new tomorrow.
It's about people still hoping for a better tomorrow and knowing that true strength, true courage and true change comes from people finding their inner strength and leading the way in turbulent times.
Why Now?
We are experiencing a moment of crisis in the Arts, particularly in the performing arts. There is a very troublesome lack of support and freelancers are being left to fend for themselves.
We find ourselves in a pivotal moment in history where we are all consumed by technology and the culture around us always favors superficial interactions, quick rewards. We have lost the art of being around other people and being in a community.
We decided that our drive to create was even bigger than the turbulent moment we are experiencing. We decided that a collaborative creation was vital, and to surround ourselves by fellow talented performers. We wanted to create a space to tell a story but also to build a community.
Such are the times we live in; where being able to pull this off, is a miracle itself.
Where will the money go?
We are a new grass-roots theatre company and at this moment in time we need your help!
Our three main expenses will be:
Costume and Set Design:
We are aiming for a very stripped production but we believe firmly in the power of costume to transport the audience. Rudy, one of our members, is an amazing craftsperson and they are knitting and crocheting some of the costumes and then putting together all of the other ones.
Set design is focused on nature and natural materials. We are trying to avoid any sort of non natural materials such as plastic, as we want to root this play as much as possible in nature.
Lighting and Sound:
We have been extremely blessed that various designers have helped us pro-bono with the design but we still need to hire the equipment out to make sure we can generate the ambiance as much as we can for the audience.
The Venue:
Burns Street Studio has been such a wonderful and accommodating space and we are actually SO excited to set the play there but we need to pay for the hire of the building for one week. Burns Street is a Community Interest Company and any profit generated is reinvested back into improving their facilities, providing in-kind provision of spaces or support for creative projects (rather than being paid to individuals or shareholders). This felt important to us and in keeping with our values for Foldout.
