Friends of Hastings Pier Campaign and Reserve Fund

Aim

Friends of Hastings Pier want to keep the pier in community ownership. This fund will make sure we're ready to take it back.

For now we seem to have lost the battle to keep Hastings Pier in community ownership.  After £14M of public, lottery and community investment, it was sold to a private individual for pittance at 9.00pm on Friday 15th June. 

We want to work on three things:

• Engage with the new owner, local politicians, potential investors, and other partners to explore options for community influence on the future of the pier.
• Have a reserve fund so that, if the opportunity arises,  we can aim to buy or otherwise re-acquire the community ownership of the freehold. 
• To maintain our campaign and continue awareness-raising.  This includes scrutinising and learning from the process that led to this outcome and to explore our options for a better outcome for Hastings Pier.  We hope that lessons learned will help to ensure other community assets elsewhere are better protected.

A partnership approach to ownership and operation is the way forward.

The Pier should remain a space that everyone can enjoy and take pride in.
