Aim

The project aims to fund the professional recording of two of my compositions, and kickstart a project to get composer's works performed.

Project aim

The project aims to fund the professional recording of two of my compositions from a song cycle I am writing celebrating famous Hull figures: 'Amy Johnson's Last Flight' and 'Coming' to create an EP.

Following this I would like to shoot a music video of 'Amy Johnson's Last Flight' using two aerial performance artists. This material will then be used to promote to companies, such as Hull City of Culture, to help fund/organise a concert during 2017 in East Yorkshire/Hull and Newcastle premiering the song cycle and featuring other local composers.

About the project

Kerrin Tatman, a composer from Beverley, is kickstarting a new project in commemoration of the 2017 Hull City of Culture bid. 'Fly Into My Vapour Arms' is phase one of the project - a crowdfunder to raise money to get two compositions professionally recorded: "Amy Johnson's Last Flight", which tells the story of the famous aviatrix in her mysterious last days as a pilot, and a setting of Philip Larkin's poem "Coming". It is part of a larger project which he is working on - a song cycle celebrating famous past and present Hull figures. Once recorded, the material will be used to promote to organisations, such as Hull City of Culture, to back a concert in the city during 2017, which will feature the première of the song cycle, as well as other local composer's works. This is part of Kerrin's ambition to provide outlets for classical composer's to get their works performed, as opportunities are currently far and few between. He also hopes to shoot a video to help visualise the project. The crowdfunder is now live with only two weeks left to raise the base figure of £250, although Kerrin hopes to raise £700 in total through overfunding and other means to fulfil the project to its full potential. In return for your donation there is a reward structure offering digital and CD copies of the pieces, plus tickets to the concert in 2017. Kerrin's other local composing projects include writing for 'NO SOUP!' Productions between 2008-2010, and winning the 2008 National Centre for Early Music Young Composer's Competition for his piece 'Stabat Mater', which was performed by the Tallis Scholars in Beverley Minster.

VIDEO

Although the recording is a priority, I would love to film a music video to accompany the EP, featuring two aerialist performance artists from Circus Central here in Newcastle. The video would tell the story of Amy Johnson and her beloved Gypsy Moth plane, Jason. This video would help to promote the project further as visual aid is essential in today's culture.

ARTISTS

As well as creating opportunities for myself, this project will provide work for musicians, recording artists, photographers, illustrators and circus performers in both East Yorkshire and Newcastle, as I plan on paying everyone involved fair rates.

COSTS

Although £250 would be a major help towards the project, the realistic figure is closer to £700 - so overfunding is welcome! I am not paying myself a penny - but will benefit from the outcome of the recording.
