How to REALLY take back control
Brexit was sold as a chance to “Take back control” but the hard truth is that, without a functioning democracy, ordinary people will never be in control of the forces that shape their lives. Without that control, people will continue to pay the price of bad decisions made by unaccountable and out-of-touch politicians...and they will continue to lose trust in the system. History shows us that widespread loss of trust in the political system often leads people into the hands of authoritarian ‘hard men’ with consequences that hardly bear thinking about.
But there is hope. The upcoming election looks likely to offer a once-in-a-generation opportunity to reshape our democracy and, with that, to start tackling all the defining challenges of our time, from the climate crisis to rising inequality. We just need to seize that opportunity.
At Open Britain, we've been helping people exercise their democratic rights since 2016. Now, with the anticipation of a new government, we're embarking on our most ambitious phase of work yet, with the aim of stopping the rot in the current system and building an irresistible public demand for change before the 2029 general election.

- Assemble the largest grassroots movement for democratic reform in UK history
- Work with key politicians to get our proposals to fix UK democracy implemented
- Help unite civil society, thought leaders, and public figures in a powerful coalition for democratic change
- Build fresh communications channels to expose the far-right’s lies and show people how they are exploiting our broken political system for their own gain
