We did it
On 29th March 2021 we successfully raised £15,020 with 150 supporters in 28 days

Our aim is to reignite the Fishponds high street with an independent wholefood shop, providing the community with healthy and tasty produce.

About Us

Sourcing good food and eating well is a given for us, and something we organise our lives around. Penny is a Nutritional Therapist and has worked in the health food and wellbeing industry for over 15 years, and Jonny is a professional musician and educator. We are also parents to two young children and want the best food for them too.

Vision for the Shop

Since moving to Fishponds in January 2020 we have found we are making several trips each week to other neighbourhoods in order to source organic staples and produce with good ethical standards. We have also been dispirited when shopping at the amount of package waste we have helped create, particularly plastic.

We have always been passionate supporters of the vibrant independent shopping scene in Bristol; since we met in 2009 we have lived in numerous Bristol neighbourhoods and our local shopping streets have included Gloucester Road, North Street in Bedminster, Whiteladies Road and St. Mark's Road in Easton. Now settled in Fishponds, we would like to open a local shop that will supply quality, ethically-sourced food with minimal packaging for the people of Fishponds.

The following quality produce would be sold:

  • Locally baked fresh bread.
  • Scoop/zero waste section including: grains, dried fruit, pulses, laundry liquid, washing up liquid and more.
  • Chilled foods including: milk, butter, cream, yogurt.
  • Coffee, chocolate, organic and natural groceries.
  • Natural and organic toiletries and cleaning products.

 Plus:

  • We would also like to sell in the shop artisan goods by local artists and feature regular exhibitions of art on the walls by Bristol artists.

The shop would reflect local wants, and would be open to customer requests. Another important role for the shop will be as a community hub for new ideas and learning. The shop premises would be open some evenings for talks and workshops.

Why do we need your help?

The major part of the starting capital will be from our own money, but we are short of our target. Recently we had a tremendous amount of support for a community bid (thanks to those who voted!) and were in place to win a substantial grant, however we were only rewarded a small portion of the funds. In a difficult economic climate and with a retail sector dominated by supermarkets, we need a substantial start-up fund to give us a fighting chance.

Your contribution to this shop will not only bring our vision to life, but will benefit the customers and Fishponds community.  The rewards section gives our future customers money back when they start shopping with us!
