We are funding a mural of a moth, found only in Tankerton and in few other places. We aim to celebrate our environment and help protect it
The Fisher's Estuarine moth is found only at Long Rock SSSI and very few other sites. It is a precious local insect which needs to be protected.
The Canterbury District Biodiversity Network has joined with the CT5 People's Forum to promote the development of a mural on Tankerton Slopes, adjacent to the moth's habitat. The mural will make beautiful an unlovely council toilet block. We hope to raise awareness of precious local biodiversity among the community and help foster a sense of common responsibility and pride in our environment.
The mural will be painted by Mark Anthony (www.atmstreetart.com), a street artist who has created many beautiful images on public walls, especially of flora and fauna struggling to survive in the face of habitat loss, pollution and climate change.
CT5 People's Forum is a civic group dedicated to local citizens engagement and community resilience, whether in democratic discourse, celebration and protection of our local environment and other activities that promote community cohesion.
The project owes thanks to Canterbury City Council and our local councillors for their support and engagement with the idea
