Hello!
I'm Matt and I'm a part-time artist based here in the glorious Calder Valley. I major on landscape painting but, of late, I've taken up pottery to run alongside my art business.
I've had a love of pottery since my late teens at art college and it's been a dream to take it up, taking the tentative first steps during the first lock down in 2020. And I'm smitten! Here are a few of my early attempts but you can always visit my website to see some more of my art practice.
The Next Level
As my pottery practice has developed over the last year or so there's a clear practical 'block' to being able to reach the 'next level', and produce pottery that could feasibly stand alongside my art practice.
I have been so SO grateful to my good friend who generously lends me the use of his mighty kiln - however - to experiment with glazes and develop my own 'style' I need the flexibility and convenience of having a small kiln here in my studio space to do regular bisque firings and experimental glaze firings along with small runs of mugs etc.

And this is where the Crowd Funder comes in. I'm hoping to raise enough money to buy a kiln (and some other associated equipment) in order to take my pottery practice to the next level.
But I'm not asking for something for nothing, the idea is simple - with my new kiln, I'm going to create special edition FIRE STARTER mugs, goblets and jugs exclusively for those who back the campaign.
There are different 'rewards' depending on the amount contributed ranging from £15 for a single mug to £80 for a FULL HOUSE consisting of 2 mugs, 2 goblets and a jug. You're essentially buying a piece of pottery that doesn't exist yet!
Put really simply – I’m looking for FIRE STARTERS, to help me raise money for a kiln (and other associated studio equipment) in order to take my pottery practice to the next level so it can stand alongside my painting in my work as an artist.
