A fantastic community led sports project is underway in Finsbury Park. It needs your crowdfunding support to help build upon the achievements already made and to take it to the next stage and extend the benefits to the wider community.
Since 2013, the athletics track and tennis courts set within Finsbury Park have been managed by a volunteer organisation, the Finsbury Park Sports Partnership (FPSP).
FPSP (registered charity 1155053) have already raised £1.2m, which has been used for the complete refurbishment of the athletics track, with substantial contributions from the London Marathon Charitable Trust, Sport England, the London Mayor and England Athletics.
The new track is open to clubs, schools and the local community. Finsbury Park Track is the home of London Heathside Athletics Club, The London Blitz American Football club, Dynamic Sports Academy fitness centre and Pedal Power, a cycling club for adults and teenagers with learning difficulties. It is used extensively by The Access to Sport Project, a community led creative and innovative sports development charity project that works across the boroughs of Islington, Haringey and Hackney and by schools across the same three London boroughs for training and sports days.
FPSP is now looking at the next phase of refurbishment. We plan to replace the inappropriate, outdated and dilapidated pavilion with a sports pavilion more suitable to its park environment and open to the whole community.
The starting point of this exercise is for an architect led feasibility study, paid for by the amounts raised here, which will include extensive consultation with existing and potential users. This will result in a series of options that aim to put the building at the heart of the community. We would then be in a position to start engaging with funders to help realise that vision.
If you believe in community-led sports projects, please support us and spread the word!
