I have been working with children and young people for a long time, and reading to and with them has always been a part of that. When I showed people my first two children's books, and they loved them, it was wonderful! To see them published, to receive the reviews, and to be told that some children felt represented for the first time, was incredible!
With my CIC, VieNess Discover You Love You CIC, I teach self-esteem and confidence to children young people, and women; sometimes, I use my books as part of the sessions with younger children, and lots of people have asked me to write a book based on those sessions.
So I have!
This picture book is all about boosting the confidence of children, and the readers, and giving them tools to help them when they aren't feeling so good. With this book, we, Charlotte and I, aim to represent even more children, in as many ways as we can fit in, as there isn't going to be just one character.
And, this time, the book is being illustrated by Charlotte Thomson-Morley (https://www.lottiethomson.com/about/ ), who, like me, also has a passion for body confidence and representation for all. (Don't worry! I have another Emily book on its way to being finished, and I hope Donna Mcghie and I will be working on that together again soon!)
There's some new types of rewards this time.
Charlotte has offered to draw your child for those of you that pick that reward; your child (or children!) can be a character in a book! There will only be ten of these on offer.
Have you seen the saddening news about how many children, due to the cost of living crisis, don't own their own book (https://www.bookmarkreading.org/blog/2022/9/20/one-in-five-children-dont-have-a-book-of-their-own-at-home#:~:text=New%20research%20from%20the%20National,cost%20of%20living%20to%20blame.)? Not reading can hugely impact on future prospects, reaching far into adulthood ( https://literacytrust.org.uk/news/childrens-reading-enjoyment-at-lowest-level-in-almost-two-decades/ ) So, with these statistics in mind, I have added rewards where books can be donated to organisations that work with children that are living in poverty. I really hope that these rewards will get supported, too.
And, another new reward is to pay for a school or group to be trained by me, as a Training 4 Influence accredited trainer, my course on creating a kinder, more confident environment, Confident Students: It's all in the teaching. This is a full day course, ideal for an Inset Day.
Also, as on the previous campaigns, there are options to buy a book and donate another, either to a school or group you choose, or for me to add to "the pot" to donate elsewhere.
Your support on this would be ever so appreciated. Charlotte and I have some wonderful plans for creating this book, and we would love to have it become a reality.
Thank you!
