We want to equip and enable families and individuals to run a budget, live on a budget and cook on a budget to empower them day to day.
Our vision:
Many of the families that we help at the Bourne Family Project experience some form of deprivation. We keep our counselling and creative therapy costs low for this reason - but we want to do more. We want to enable families and individuals to find day-to-day financial wellbeing, reducing their anxiety around finances and therefore increasing mental health and wellbeing.
How to run a budget:
We will train volunteers using Christians Against Poverty (CAP) money course (£15 for each volunteer trained) to be able to support and advise individuals to help them achieve financial wellbeing. The CAP money course provides online budgeting tools, videos and access to support where additional debt help is required.
We will provide a safe and welcoming environment with tea, coffee and cake and will talk to families about budgeting and help provide some much needed financial security for our families - for free!
Cooking healthily on a budget:
We will train volunteers in food hygiene (£20 +VAT for each volunteer) and create low cost, healthy and tasty meals that families can replicate at home. We will show families how to cook simple meals in our kitchen and take them home with a well-designed recipe card so they can make it again in the future. We will need to buy some duplicates of cooking equipment, containers and aprons, etc to enable this kind of group activity.
Local links:
We have strong links with other services in the area such as East Bristol Foodbank, Nextlink Housing, schools, nurseries and local churches who will refer clients, individuals and parents to our support team.
With rising energy bills, and the difficulties that the pandemic has produced, now is the time to intervene. We know that 31% of children living in Bristol and Kingswood are living in poverty*, and our course will enable members of our community to find a way to live in a financially sustainable way.
Please choose Bourne Family Project as your project to support and help make a difference to the lives of families in your local community.
