It is now 200 years since the 1823 Gaol Act mandated sex-segregated prisons. We say that this is long overdue.
Keep Prisons Single Sex needs your help to carry on our work. Adam Graham is not an anomaly and he is not unique. Right now, Andrew Burns (aka Tiffany Scott) is waiting to be moved to a women's prison. Burns is one of the most dangerous men in the Scottish prison system and his proposed move to a female jail is obscene.
We know there are around 20 men serving their sentences in women's prison across the UK. We need your help to get them out and change legislation to keep them out.
Keep Prisons Single Sex is run entirely by volunteers, including our Director Dr Kate Coleman, who takes no salary for her tireless work. We rely entirely on donations from our generous supporters. However, we have not only reached the stage where we have to make hard decisions about the work we have the resources to undertake, we are facing the real possibility that this year we will be forced to scale back dramatically with the result that KPSS will no longer be able to operate as we currently do.
No one does what we do. No one has the reach and impact that we do.
It is now 200 years since the 1823 Gaol Act mandated sex-segregated prisons and female warders for female prisoners. With your help, we can restore Elizabeth Fry's reforms, ensure we safeguard some of society's most vulnerable women and Keep Prisons Single Sex.
