Aim

ffaun aims to produce a range of sustainable notebooks and 2020 diaries, bound entirely by hand using vegan leather and recycled papers

I'm Amy, a designer and bookbinder, originally from the Highlands of Scotland and now living and working in Glasgow – via brief stints in Aberdeen, Saint Étienne in France and Edinburgh. I work as a freelance designer and started ffaun as a way of using my design skills to help the environment and bring some good to the world, whilst getting to explore my love of working with my hands instead of on a computer screen.

I set up ffaun with the aim of creating a sustainable, beautiful and functional alternative to big-brand stationery companies. 

Our habits and buying choices are endangering the planet we rely on to survive; the stationery industry contributes to this, with over 380,000,000 tonnes of new paper having been produced this year alone. Recycling one tonne of paper saves around 2,500 litres of oil, 26,500 litres of water and 17 trees – that's why all ffaun books are produced using 100% recycled paper. They are bound entirely by hand, with vegan leather covers for added eco-credentials. They are designed to challenge the industry standard of using unsustainable materials and production methods to produce stationery, without costing a fortune or damaging our environment.

Our world is saturated these days with disposable products thoughtlessly created just to be thrown away. ffaun's aim is to change this by making beautiful, timeless books which can be used and cherished. All our materials are sourced from UK-based suppliers, keeping our carbon footprint as low as possible. Your support will contribute to a more sustainable future.

I am crowdfunding in order to create a range of notebooks and diaries for the coming year. Both the diaries and notebooks will be available in a range of three colourways; navy blue cover with brown inner cover; olive green cover with blush pink inner cover and grey with midnight blue inner cover. The vegan leather covers are made from luxuriously soft PU leather with a fine grain and the inner pages are 100% recycled. The notebook pages are blank while the diaries are page-per-week, designed by me to be minimal and functional, and digitally printed onto 100% recycled stock. Each book has a date stamp at the back showing when it was lovingly hand-bound, and making it completely unique. They each also have a pocket in the inside back cover for stashing loose sheets (and any other interesting things you find lying around).

I have created a range of reward packages for varying budgets and uses. A £20 donation comes with a reward of a blank notebook in one of the following colours: Navy Blue with stone brown inner cover, Olive Green with blush pink inner cover or Grey with midnight blue inner cover.

A £25 pledge comes with a reward of a 2020 diary in one of the above colours.

A £40 pledge comes with a choice of rewards; either a notebook and diary duo, in your choice of colour (they can be matching or different, it's up to you!) or a personalised diary hand-painted with your choice of initial by signwriter Rachel E Millar:

The funds raised through this Crowdfunder will enable orders to be placed for the materials and printing required to produce a limited range of special edition notebooks and diaries for 2020. Having a base of pre-orders in the form of Crowdfunder pledges will mean accurate order quantities can be placed, meaning fewer waste materials and thus a lower carbon footprint and more sustainable products.
